As things move slowly but hopefully in the right direction after these months of shutdown and restrictions, I’m writing with some good news but also some cancellations.

Competitions

Starting with the good, county ‘postal' competitions will be available this winter for those who can access ranges, with cards scored at clubs and free entry.

This information has been sent to club secretaries to enter in the normal way, with an entry deadline of 26 September 2020. If you wish to enter and you haven’t heard about the competitions, please contact your club secretary or the person who usually deals with competition entries at your club.

All leagues will comprise 6 teams or individuals and there will only be 5 rounds for the season, with the round 1 closing date being 23rd November and subsequent round closing dates at monthly intervals thereafter. (21st December, 25th January, 22nd February & 22nd March)

Competition 3 for prone rifle club teams will be reduced to teams of three, and all competition cards will need to be scored locally either by an NSRA qualified scorers or by way of a scoring App.

Please note that the email for the league organiser, Paddy Hicks is now: paddyhicks36@gmail.com

Please send entries by email no scanned written entry forms but typed on an email with Club, Comp no (i.e. Comps 4 Ind Rifle) competitor and average all on one side, (no need for separate sheet for each comp.) and an address to send stickers to.

Refunds

Clubs that paid for summer entries can obtain refunds for these, via club secretaries emailing scsbratreasurer@gmail.com with club details and the sum claimed.

NB: that this is only if you paid via bank transfer as any cheques were destroyed and not banked.

Open meetings and prize-giving dinner cancelled

In view of the restrictions and risks, we have had to cancel all open meetings this year, being the Prone and Benchrest Rifle, LSR and Air Gun meeting, plus the annual prize giving dinner.

This is a sad consequence of the Covid-19 world we now inhabit and even where there might have been a technical possibility of an event being held, the anticipated levels of participation, unpredictability of restrictions, difficulties for organisers and in the case of the air gun meeting, the Lord Roberts Centre being closed indefinitely, make them, at best, impractical.

We’re keeping things under review for next year and as with everyone else, we’re hoping that a vaccine will be found and made available so that things can get back to some level of normality.

Club re-opening

I know from personal experience that indoor clubs are struggling to find ways to re-open in view of the air circulation and distancing requirements. We don’t have any specific advice or guidance on this, as each club is unique and the costs and practicalities can differ greatly. As things stand, outdoor clubs and ranges seem to be generally open, if in limited ways, and some clubs also have 25 yard facilities outdoors or with upgraded ventilation, so if you're a member of an indoor club that can’t re-open at the moment, it might be possible to shoot as a visitor elsewhere, by private arrangement with club secretaries. I recognise that clubs need to pre- register shooters and are likely to have restricted range time and volunteers available for supervision, so may need to limit or refuse visitors at present.

For reference, the NSRA guidance on re-opening is here:

https://www.nsra.co.uk/index.php/news/covid-19-digest/2959-additional-guidance-regarding-range-ventilation

In the meantime, I hope that the opportunity for competition will at least be some compensation for the lost summer of shooting in 2020 and that those who can will be able to support the leagues.

Safe shooting.
