Queen Alexandra Trophy

The Surrey County small-bore rifle team of 6 has won the prestigious Queen Alexandra Cup at the Bisley Small-bore Rifle Championships, beating arch rivals Buckinghamshire into second place by 13 points. Bookham Rifle Club were also runners up in the concurrent club team of three competition.

The UK's 8 top qualifying counties competed in an exciting final on the opening day of the week-long British small-bore rifle championships, testing their speed shooting skills in a competition that dates back to 1910; the prizes a magnificent Garrards designed silver trophy, presented by Edward VII's consort, Queen Alexandra ("QA") and special medals to keep.

While the winners are no longer conveyed in their shooting gear straight from the range to Buckingham Palace for tea, the contest is still keenly fought and Surrey maintained its pre-eminence, having now won the trophy 18 times.

County Captain, Lina Jones, commented: “This is a great result. Credit goes to Stephanie Postlethwaite, who continues to organise the Surrey qualification rounds and finals team, and of course, to the team themselves. We're hoping for plenty of entries for the qualifiers next year and if anyone wants some training in preparation for shooting for club or county, there are winter leagues to enter. Just get in touch as soon as possible."

In the concurrent club team of three QA competition, Bookham finished a very close second to Hendon, losing by one point with 1191 vs 1192, although a tie would have gone in Hendon’s favour due to their impressive skirmisher total.

In the individual QA competition (for the leading county shooters in the qualifying round) Bookham's Paul Duxbury finished 5th, 4 points behind the winner.
