Summer news

Dear All

With the Olympics nearly on us, hopefully we'll be seeing some of the shooting covered on TV and the internet. An article in ShootingUK at least provides some hope (here), but keep an eye on the NSRA website too , as coverage of the live scores from Sius Ascor seemed to work well during the London Prepares World Cup. The London 2012 shooting schedule is on the BBC site (here) , with the honour of the first medal in the Games going to Women's Air Rifle on 28 July. Good luck to Team GB and the numerous Surrey shooters who are involved in running the event.

Congratulations to Surrey shooters
Congratulations to Kenny Parr for the impressive 3P British record he set at the Scottish 50m Rifle Championships at Denwood on 9 June (pic and details here). Three Surrey shooters represented GB in the annual postal Dewar match at Appleton in June (article here). The three are now also eligible to go through to the Pershing trials in September, shooting on US targets for places in the once-in-8-years GB team that will go to Camp Perry, USA, in July 2013. In preparation for the trial, Bill Brown (Chobham) won X class in the the Northants, Leics and Rutland TSA 60x50yds, 60x100yds match on US targets on 07 July 2012. Last but not least, Paul Duxbury (Bookham) took a clean sweep of the Double Dewar and Any Sights honours at the Kent Open on 17 June. Well done all. If you have any club or other news to share, please drop me a line via the contact us form.

Bisley 2012 (Rifle Championship 11-19 August 2012)
The deadline for Bisley prone rifle championship entries is up on 20 July for the meeting 11-19 August 2012, so to anyone still wondering if it's for them; why not enter the weekend aggregate over 11th and 12th August 2012 and see how you like it? Or maybe have a go at the double English Match (2 x 60 shots prone on the electronic targets on the Malcolm Cooper range). The entry form can be downloaded here , but hurry. Entries for the British Pistol Championships at Bisley are also now open (7-9 September 2012) and for the British International 50m Rifle Championships, Bisley 21-23 September, all accessible from the same NSRA web page.

Don't forget: A useful warm up for Bisley is the Middlesex Open at Hendon on Sunday 22 July 2012.

Surrey Open (8/9 September 2012)
The Surrey County Diamond Jubilee prone and benchrest rifle Open will be held over the weekend of 8th and 9th September 2012 at Worplesdon & District Target Shooting Club. Entry forms and more details can be found here. The event features benchrest for the first time and there is also a free to enter 60 shot Diamond Jubilee shoot. You can elect to shoot on either day and the competition is run in classes, so it is a great opportunity for shooters at all levels of experience to enjoy a shoulder to shoulder shoot, from juniors to veterans. Why not encourage some of your fellow club members to make it a day out?
